Thank you for booking your photo shoot with Headshots LA.  I have put together a quick reference guide to help you prepare for your photo shoot.   This checklist is a must read.

Email Me This Info –

1 –  Send a photo of you wearing the outfit you plan on being photographing in.  Share this with myself and your manager or agent.  If you don’t have one that is fine.  This will ensure that your wardrobe is most effective for your team.  Please send wearing it.  I need to see how it fits.

2 – What is your good side? If you don’t know it’s ok.  The most important angle is facing directly to camera.  It’s always good to know your good side. 

3 – Background numbers and types of looks. List your looks in the order you would like them shot. (Type of look – Commercial, Theatrical, Business, Modeling) List your looks in the order you would like them shot.

Look 1 – Theatrical, Background 17
Look 2 – Commercial, Background 7

5 – Your favorite music.  We need your vibes.

How to Prepare: 

• • Type of Headshot –   Are you doing a commercial look and a theatrical?  Maybe you just need all commercial?  Types of headshots are commercial, theatrical, character, dance, music, modeling or corporate.  Theatrical is for tv and film. Commercial headshots are of course for commercial jobs.  

• • Photo – Please send me a low resolution recent photo or selfie.  If you send me a photo of you wearing your outfits then you don’t need to send just a selfie.

• • Backgrounds– Choose your backgrounds.  Check at the bottom of the page for Background Choices.  Send me the number of your choices.  Remember to put them in the order you would like them shot.
    
  • Wardrobe– Match your clothes to the backgrounds.  Your clothes will depend on what type of headshot you are doing.   Definitely try your clothes on well before coming to your appointment to make sure they still fit properly and are exactly what you want to wear for your session.  Please email me selfies in what you plan to wear so I can assist you if needed.  You do not need to worry about shoes and pants for headshots.
  • Suggested items for Actors – Blotting paper keeps skin even and removes sweat while not messing up makeup.  These eyedrops are game changers.  They make your eyes clean of any veins or redness and make eyes shiny and pop on camera.

PICK YOUR BACKGROUND

• Pick 1 background for every look you purchased
• If it appears the backdrop you picked is outdoors make sure your session is booked to start between 9am and 4pm

Tips for Headshots – nothing to disctract from your expression

Do not wear busy patterns
Do not wear loose or baggy clothes
Do not wear Jewelry or anything distracting
Do not wear white (It is the brightest thing in the photo and we want your eyes to be)
Do not wear clothes with logos
Do not wear clothes with hard to fix textures
Do not wear clothes that are too stylish which causes distraction
Do not wear see through clothes (Make sure no brah lines as well)
Do not wear super low neck lines on shirts (It creates negative space and distracts)

Wardrobe Tips

These guidelines are to help you prepare wardrobe for your headshots.  You may bring a couple options if you need my opinion.  You may also do 1 simple change per look. (e.g. Shooting some with a jacket or glasses.  Additional clothing changes would be considered an additional look.)

Theatrical Headshots

Do-
◦ Muted colors
◦ Grays, Blacks, Earth Tones (New trend I like better thank black is super dark greens, blues browns and grey)
◦ Girls if you have super dark hair skip black and go for dark grey or dark color as your new black
◦ Form fitting clothing that doesn’t wrinkle
◦ Layering is always a great idea to build depth
◦Try to keep your clothing modern.  Pay attention to the cuts of the shirts and the materials.  I like shirts that look modern but don’t distract.◦ Try to put your vibe into the styling of this shot but not so much as it takes attention from you.
◦ Make sure clothing is not see through.

Do Not-
◦ Spaghetti Straps (unless you cover with hair)
◦ Busy patterns
◦ Overly stylish
◦ Out dated styles
◦ Avoid white
◦ No clothes that wrinkle or are baggy
◦ Low cut shirts in general.  They create too much negative space that distracts
◦ No see through clothing please.  Check before you come

Commercial Headshots

Something vibrant that makes you have a commercial feel. You want to wear colors that you look best in.  

I suggest a medium or light intensity color.  Think pastels spring and theatrical is fall colors

Do-
◦ Colorful shirts that compliment your eyes, skin and hair.
◦ Modern cuts, don’t be dated from the start.  Layering is good.
◦ Shirts that frame your face shape
◦ Form fitting clothing that doesn’t wrinkle
◦ Make sure clothing is not see through.

Do Not – 
◦ Too Colorful, or too bright
◦ Busy patterns
◦ Out dated styles and cuts
◦ Stay away from white unless under a jacket.
◦ Avoid Baggy Clothing

• What to bring–  
  • • Guys: Definitely bring chapstick, stuff to do your hair and whatever else you need to look your best.
    • You do not need to worry about bringing pants or shoes to headshot sessions.
  • Girls: If you hired hair and make-up, then make sure you send them a photo beforehand and discuss what you want them to create for you.  Please let me know if you are bringing a stylist or if you are hiring one of mine. If you are doing it yourself, bring everything you need to create your looks.  Most importantly is powder to reduce shine and hairspray to reduce fly aways.  *Girls bring a black and a white bra.  Please make sure clothing is not see through.

• Makeup and Hair – 
  • Girls your make-up and hair should be recreate-able by you. 
  • Makeup should look natural and not distracting. 
  • Lip color should be your natural lip color and matte.  No Gloss
  • Your base should be even.  Make sure your neck matches your face.
  • If shooting outside it might be good to put your hair up to avoid wind
  • Hair should be how you plan to wear it when you go to castings. 
  • Hair should not hide your features eg eyebrows, cheekbones and jawline
  • You should look like your headshot when you go to castings. 
  • Set your hair with hairspray to avoid fly aways.
  • Keep the inside line of hair clean from fly aways
  • No Hair on shoulder 

• Get Rest–
  • Now that you are prepared for the shoot; hit the gym, drink plenty of water, and get some rest.  If you feel sick or not well, please let me know so we can reschedule.  No one takes good photos when they don’t feel well.  Also make sure you take care of your lips and skin for at least a week before a shoot.
