Theatrical Headshots are the gateway photos to landing roles in T.V. and Film productions.  I love shooting Theatrical Headshots.  They are generally characterized by the muted clothing, darker backgrounds and more dramatic expressions.  A great Theatrical Headshot should really let your personality be expressed.

Photographing Theatrical Headshots is a creative and fun job.  Seeing how the majority of my clothing is black I think I just identify with the more mysterious and darker vibe of Theatrical Headshots.  If a Dramatic Headshots would be the opposite of a Commercial Headshots,  Theatrical Headshots would fall in the middle of those two styles of Headshots.

The over all look of a Theatrical Headshot should be neutral.  You want you to pop.  So stick to wearing muted colors such as earth tones, blacks and grays.  Backgrounds are usually a bit dark and mysterious.  They don’t have to be but it generally ends up that way.  Poses can be a bit strong or not depending on your personality.  You really want your vibe to be present in this shot.  You can be the bad guy but do it in your own way.

No matter if it is your first shoot or you are a seasoned professional remember to have fun and keep it loose.  Headshots only get harder when you are stressed.  So relax, trust the process and use this time to expand your comfort zone in front of the camera.  I hope this bit of information helps out and your next Theatrical Headshots are picture perfect.
